EarthLinked® Heating and Cooling Testimonials

From a condo owner:

As owners of 142 condominium units at Claremont Arms in Claremont, New Hampshire, one of our most egregious expenses in the past was the cost of the central domestic hot water electrically. We must have an adequate supply of hot water for our tenants, so a volume reduction was out of the question.

Mel Hensch of Efficiencyplus Corporation designed and installed a 6-ton EarthLinked Commercial Water Heating system in one of our buildings. After it was monitored for a period of months, based on the energy savings and satisfactory operation of the unit, we had additional units installed in each of the five remaining buildings.

The energy savings as monitored by the Public Service Company of NH averaged 67-70% even though common area lighting is on the same electrical circuits. The thousands of dollars in savings have meant a better bottom line for our company.

I was so impressed with the systems performance that I had two EarthLinked heating and cooling systems installed in my new home consisting of approximately 5,000 square feet of living space. We have had a very comfortable winter at a cost that is only a fraction of what I paid for fossil fuel in our previous homes.

We are especially pleased to be utilizing this source of green renewable energy and want to express our appreciation to you for your efforts to make our project a success.

From Homeowners and Installers:

"We are running about 40% colder this winter than last and about 12% colder than the 30 year average. So, we are putting it [the EarthLinked® system] to the test and it is passing with flying colours."

- John Cavanagh, Homeowner, Rye, NH

"I concluded that the EarthLinked® heat pump system was the most efficient and most likely to work in my installation. My research showed that EarthLinked® is 20 to 25 percent more efficient than other geothermal options and is virtually maintenance-free.
"I’m amazed at how low our electric bills have been in New York City, where we pay $0.14/kwh. My neighbours are paying a lot more to heat and cool their homes."

- Mike Yoder, Homeowner, Manhattan, NY

"I think that what I have come to like about DX the most after two years of use is the even comfort level that it provides, no cold spots and no warm spots. Just an even temp throughout the house at whatever the thermostat is set for."

- Del Leese, Homeowner, Mechanicsburg, PA

"The system cycles on and off keeping the house at 70 degrees and is SUPER quiet."

- Arnold Gregory, Installer, Dublin, GA

"We're thrilled with every aspect of the ECR EarthLinked® system. The uniformity of temperature throughout the house is far superior to the 65% efficiency gas furnace. When coupled with the whole house humidification system and EarthLinked® system that Redmond HVAC installed, the house keeps us warmer than we had ever been in the previous two winters living here, but the thermostat is now set two degrees lower (at 68)!

My neighbours have been asking about life with the new system. I try not to sound smug, but it's hard not to be. Now, with oil prices skyrocketing (are gas rates far behind?), who has the last laugh? And to boot, unlike theirs, our chimney doesn't spew anything anymore.

This experience has proven to us that when you do your research and come across something that makes sense technologically, economically, and environmentally, there's no reason in the world not to do it."

- Richard Hoenich and Sheila Globus, Homeowners, Sudbury, MA

"We feel that our customers are 100 percent behind us. They like our service. They like the installations and they like the equipment. And I tell you, the ECR unit is just superb....I try to sell customers who come in looking for water-source systems on EarthLinked® because of the greater comfort, lower operating cost, and simplicity of service.

"The way we’re drilling for EarthLinked®, we’re staying out of the drinking water aquifer. The ECR design is just so much better than traditional closed-loop systems. I think we need that because everybody needs drinking water and the design of the Direct Exchange is better from that standpoint. With DIRECT AXXESS® earth loops we can drill a much smaller hole. The water source people have to drill 5 or 6-inch holes. The bore for ECR loops is only 2 inches in diameter."

- Ken Lambert, Lambert Construction, Bridgewater, VA

"The EarthLinked® system is maintenance free. You don’t have to worry about it. Just set the thermostat and forget it. It makes 100 percent of my domestic hot water and replenishes the water as fast as you can use it. I’ve never run out of hot water. I just can’t say enough about it."

- Ellwood Hoover, Homeowner, Harrisonburg, VA

"Our system has worked great. We've had no problems. And we've seen our electric bills go down. We doubled the size of our house when we put the EarthLinked® system in and our electric bill is less than it was before we added on. So we're very happy about that."

- Chris Bowlen, Homeowner, Port Republic, VA

Demonstration and Monitoring Projects

In 1986, ECR began demonstrating its products through electric utilities and private programs including:

  • The most energy efficient water heater tested at the Florida Solar Energy Center. The ECR dedicated heat pump water heater was 400% more efficient than electric resistance water heaters.
  • A project funded by Florida Power Corporation to test a standard 2-ton ASHP modified with ECR's controls at the University of Central Florida showed 10% heating and 13% cooling season efficiency improvements.
  • A project monitored by Lakeland Electric where the unit achieved an HSPF (Heating Season Performance Factor) of 18.1 and a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) of 13.6 in 1988 resulted in The Energy Innovation Award to ECR by the Governor of Florida. (Read Summary)
  • ECR's refrigerant controls were successfully applied to displace the traditional thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) and accumulator on a standard 15-ton supermarket A/C in cooperation with the building owner.
  • Consumers Power Co. (MI) reported 12-month test which showed ECR system 25% more energy efficient than all other Geo systems (20) tested.
  • The certification of a 10.4% heating efficiency gain in an ETL Testing Laboratory test of ECR controls in an ASHP retrofit in 1991. (Testing of subsequently improved controls is anticipated to show 15% system efficiency gains in heating and cooling.)
  • The successful operation of an ECR unit began in 1996 in the Concept Home of Heritage Homes in Maple Glen, PA which performs four functions: forced air heating and cooling; alternatively providing heat to a hydronic radiant in-floor heating system; and integrated domestic water heating. No other company has this capability without the use of expensive electronic controls.
  • The demonstration of a coated copper earth loop EarthLinked® unit successfully operating in a residence in Stockbridge, GA beginning in September 1996, funded by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association
